1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using askhvac.ca ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you don't agree to these terms, don't use the Site. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and anyone who accesses the Site.

2. Description of service

AskHVAC.ca provides free online HVAC engineering calculators, reference tools, and educational content for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration applications. All calculations run in your browser. We don't store your inputs or results on our servers.

The Site is provided free of charge and is supported by advertising. We reserve the right to change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time.

3. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and all calculators are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't warrant that:

  • Calculator results are accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.
  • The Site will be available continuously, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
  • Results comply with any specific building code, jurisdiction, or regulatory requirement.
  • Results are appropriate for permit applications without independent professional verification.

HVAC calculations involve judgement calls, site-specific conditions, and local code requirements that automated tools can't fully account for. Results should always be reviewed by a qualified mechanical engineer or HVAC professional before use in design, construction, or permit applications.

4. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Canadian law, AskHVAC.ca and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Use of or reliance on calculator results.
  • Errors or inaccuracies in the tools or content.
  • Equipment sizing decisions made based on Site outputs.
  • Permit rejections or code non-compliance resulting from use of the Site.
  • Any interruption or unavailability of the Site.

If you're in a Canadian jurisdiction that doesn't allow limitation of implied warranties or exclusion of incidental damages, some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes. You must not:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract content or calculator logic for commercial use.
  • Use automated tools to submit bulk requests that place unreasonable load on the Site.
  • Attempt to circumvent any security measures or access restricted areas of the Site.
  • Use the Site in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the service for other users.
  • Reproduce or republish substantial portions of the Site's content without written permission.

Personal, educational, and professional use of the calculators and tools is permitted and encouraged.

6. Intellectual property

All content on AskHVAC.ca — including calculator logic, text, graphics, design, and code — is owned by AskHVAC.ca or its content suppliers and protected by Canadian copyright law.

You may: use the calculators freely for personal and professional purposes, share links to the Site, and reference calculation methodology with appropriate attribution.

You may not: reproduce calculator code or substantial content for competing tools, resell results from the calculators as your own product, or create derivative works without written permission.

The AskHVAC.ca name and logo are trademarks of AskHVAC.ca. Use of these marks without written permission is prohibited.

7. Third-party links and services

The Site links to external resources including ASHRAE, Natural Resources Canada, and other reference sites. These links are provided for convenience. We don't control external sites and are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.

The Site uses third-party services including Google Analytics and advertising networks. Their use is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

8. Changes to the service and terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance. We'll post a notice on the Site for material changes.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any calculator or feature without notice. We're not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province of Ontario, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or use of the Site will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, Canada.
